I remember when I bought my first cordless drill over a decade ago – the bulky and heavy 19.2V Craftsman. It was one of the nicest tools I’d ever owned at the time, yet it rarely gets used anymore.

Craftsman 19.2V <-- The old Craftsman

Today, the cordless drill still has its place, but cordless impact drivers, with their potent combination of drilling and hammering action, have usurped some of the territory. Impact drivers started out most of their lives on construction job sites, but they’ve gained appeal in other industries, such as automotive repair.

Having used impact drivers, including the Porter Cable PCC640, for a few years, I recently decided to upgrade to the brushless Porter Cable PCCK647LB. I was amazed at how much more sophisticated this tool had become over its evolution. It feels very well-balanced and comfortable in the hand, and it packs enough punch to do just about any chore required.
