As you may know by watching the DIY Apprentice videos on YouTube, I’m a huge proponent of following safe and correct practices when it comes to DIY home improvement projects. I believe in adhering to the published code standards, and I work cooperatively with local code enforcement officials, who in turn have been extremely helpful with resolving issues and providing ideas.

We all strive for the beautifully remodeled bathroom or kitchen with shiny, new fixtures we can show off to our friends and relatives. However, a shoddy floor structure, inefficient or unsafe plumbing, or hazardous electrical wiring underneath all that prettiness can threaten to empty our wallets or even endanger our families.

Admittedly, the building code books can be very intimidating. I recently encountered these building code quick guides that condense the code down to manageable chunks anyone can follow. Check them out.

Please stay safe.
